We consider how bias impairs the quality\u00a0of evidence from clinical trials involving cardiovascular\u00a0healthcare technologies. Finally, we provide\u00a0recommendations to HTA organisations to take account of\u00a0bias when making guideline recommendations.\u00a0Clinical research studies of medical devices, diagnostics\u00a0and interventions in cardiovascular healthcare are\u00a0susceptible to impairment through bias. While HTA\u00a0organisations, such as the National Institute of Health\u00a0and Care Excellence, may require reviewers to take\u00a0account of bias, there are uncertainties as to how this is\u00a0achieved, especially in cardiovascular technology trials.\u00a0This becomes more relevant given that large trials are\u00a0few in number; therefore, the quality of evidence from\u00a0an individual trial may have a large bearing on guideline\u00a0recommendations and clinical practice.\u00a0HTA organisations should drive improvements in the\u00a0design and rigour of randomised trials. The evolving\u00a0landscape of cardiovascular healthcare technologies and\u00a0related trials presents a challenge for HTA organisations\u00a0and healthcare providers. The rapid turnover of evidence\u00a0is externally relevant because the period from the\u00a0trial publication to implementation of HTA guideline\u00a0recommendations by healthcare providers may be\u00a0prolonged, by which time new evidence may have\u00a0emerged from subsequent trials. Implementation of a\u00a0cardiovascular healthcare technology including be it\u00a0a medical device, diagnostic or intervention may have\u00a0profound implications for healthcare providers.
