The term Health Technology refers to application of organised knowledge and skills in the form of devices, medicines, vaccines, procedures and systems developed to solve a health problem and improve quality of life.

Medical devices for treatment-resistant hypertension

Treatment-resistant hypertension is a prevalent and life-threatening condition. At present, renal denervation is the most used non-pharmaceutical therapeutic approach. Optimal medical therapy (OMT) is the current standard.The  aim of this HTA report is to assess the potential benefits and risk of renal denervation for treatment-resistant hypertension in addition to OMT compared with OMT alone.

Renal denervation systems or treatment-resistant hypertension

The target population comprises patients who suffer from resistant hypertension, a con-dition that is linked to sympathetic nervous system overactivity, involving the kidneys. Patients who are eligible for the intervention can be treated with catheter-based renal denervation.
